Boris Krivoshiev
Having grown up in South Africa, little did I know at the time that I would find passion in something as dry as “risk assessment”. However, in retrospect, my path was paved early on when my curiosity in the sciences got the better of me and I quickly found myself graduating with a master’s in medicine specialised in medical biochemistry from the University of Cape Town.
My thirst for learning was not satiated which led me to the University of Antwerp, Belgium where my doctoral research in predictive toxicology involved using next generation screening techniques in order to identify substances of concern needing further testing, inform read-across in the scope of Next Generation Risk Assessment, and for application in quantitative risk assessment.
Following my PhD, my experience in the pharmaceutical sector further enforced the need for human health safety. This tenet was then transferred to my experience in cosmetic and personal care product industries where I served as principal toxicologist tasked with developing new assessment approaches and led safety assessment of ingredients, natural extracts, biologics, raw materials, food supplements, and finished cosmetic products.
With expertise within toxicology and working together with brands I am able to advise and support development and acceptance of novel ingredients from concept to clinical testing through evidence-based approaches. This resulted in either introduction of novel ingredients as INCI or acceptance of the finished products on the market, while ensuring human health and brand reputation.
Product development, realisation, and sustainability start with considerations right from initial concept to final product. Attentiveness to consumer wellbeing promotes product longevity, brand reputation, and is one of the fundamental aspects towards true sustainability.
